(Edward) Ashton Cannell, RSMA (1927-1994) was a well-known painter in watercolour chiefly of marine subjects. He was born in the Isle of Man and studied art there and later at the Liverpool College of Art. After teaching art in the Isle of Man he settled in London and became a full time artist in 1973, exhibiting with the Royal Society of Marine Artists from 1971-1994, the Wapping Group, the Royal Academy, and the Paris Salon where he won a silver medal for his work. He was a member of the RSMA, the Wapping Group and the London Sketch Club. He lived in London NW6.
