Hugo De Soto (born 1928) is a well known abstract painter and printmaker. He was born in Cuba and studied art there at the San Alejandro Academy in Havana and then from 1946 he continued his studies at the Society of Arts & Crafts in Detroit, Michigan, United States, under John Foster. He had a solo exhibition in Detroit in 1950. De Soto has exhibited internationally over decades and since 1962 he has been based in Italy. His work is held in many collections including in the Library of Congress, in Washington D.C.
