(1925-2024) Born in Salford, Shiels attended the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London. 'Doc' as he is known, moved to St Ives, Cornwall aged 20 in 1958. In 1961 he was made a member of the committee of the influential Penwith Society of Arts. In St Ives he ran the 'Steps Gallery'. He held solo exhibitions in London before leaving St Ives in 1964. He since lived in Gloucestershire, Cornwall again and the West of Ireland. An influential artist known for his fusion of landscape, seascape and abstraction.
