Robert Cargill (1940–2001) born into a well-known fishing family in Arbroath, Scotland. In 1963 Cargill joined Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee where he received a post graduate diploma and then lectured there for two years. He exhibited in the UK throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Won the Scottish Arts Council Award in 1969 and a year later, the Elizabeth Greenshields Award. In the late 1980s he moved to the island of Mallorca where he continued to work and exhibit.
