Robert Flavell Micklewright, RWS (1923-2013) was a well known painter in watercolour, poster designer and illustrator. He was born in Staffordshire, and studied at Croydon School of Art 1939, Wimbledon School of Art 1948-1949, and the Slade School of Fine Art 1949-1952. He exhibited predominately landscape watercolours at the Royal Academy from 1951-1973 and was elected a full member of the Royal Watercolour Society. A versatile artist he designed posters for London Transport 1968-1975 and also for Shell and Gulf Oil, was an illustrator for The Radio Times, and he designed books of stamps for the Royal Mail. Micklewright lived in Surrey for many years, firstly at Carshalton and then at Mogador near Tadworth.
