Paul Hogarth, RA (1917-2001) was a well-known painter in watercolour, printmaker and commercial artist. Born in Kendal, Cumbria, he studied art Manchester College of Art and later in London at St Martin’s School of Art. He illustrated books by well-known authors such as Robert Graves, Stephen Spender, Graham Greene and Lawrence Durrell and is perhaps best known for his drawings and prints of exotic places. Hogarth exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1952 and was elected an RA in 1984 and appointed OBE in 1989. Annual exhibitions of his work were held at the Francis Kyle Gallery in London.
