Martin Leman, RWS, RBA (born London, 1934) is a well-known painter, printmaker, designer and teacher. He studied at Worthing School of Art and then, following National service, he spent two years studying graphic design at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, London. After working in design and advertising, as well as lecturing part-time in Graphic Design at Hornsey College of Art, he began painting seriously, becoming very well-known for his amusing cat pictures and later for his nudes and still lifes. He had solo shows at The Portal Gallery in London and with a number of other galleries. Martin Leman has exhibited regularly with the Royal Academy since 1989 and is a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of British Artists. In 2002 Sansom & Company published ‘Martin Leman A World of his Own’ by David Buckman.
