Sydney Samuel Arrobus (1901-1990) was a well-known painter in watercolour and also a commercial artist and designer. He was born in London and studied art there at Heatherley’s school of Fine Art. Arrobus exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and at other leading galleries. He had his studio in Haverstock Hill, London NW3 and showed too with the Hampstead Artists’ Council. His subject matter was often to be found in the streets of the West End and in North London, and also in Brighton and other South Coastal towns, as well as in France, Greece, Egypt and Mexico. He died in London and in 2003 a show ‘Impressions of Arrobus’ was held at Burgh House in Hampstead.
