John Emanuel (born 1930, Bury, Lancashire) is a painter and printmaker of figure subjects and of the human form embraced by the landscape, especially the Cornish landscape. A largely self taught artist with no formal art training, he began painting full time on moving to Cornwall in 1964. John Emanuel was elected a member of the Penwith Society of Artists in 1968 and had his first one man show in 1975 at the Wills Lane Gallery in St Ives. Many other solo shows have followed including at the Gilbert Parr Gallery, London; Montpelier Studio, London; Salthouse Gallery, St Ives; and Beaux Arts Gallery, Bath. He has had a studio at Porthmeor in St Ives since 1982 and was a founder member of the Porthmeor Printmakers 1992 and a member and one time chairman of the Newlyn Society of Artists.
