Charles Howard (1922-2007) was a painter of coastal and harbour scenes in oil, watercolour and mixed media, and an art teacher. He was born in Richmond, south-west London and studied art in Devon and later in Worthing and Brighton. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and in important commercial galleries such as Crane Kalman, Roland Browse & Delbanco and The New Art Centre in London. In 1972 he was living in Twickenham, Middlesex and the following year, 1973, he settled in Penzance in order to paint full time. He is best known for his views in west Cornwall, especially of coastal subjects in or near to St Ives, Sennen and Penzance. He also painted along the east coast of England, in Brittany and in Spain. He signed his work ‘Howard’.
