Alistair Grant, RBA, ARCA (1925-1997) was born in London but as his mother was French he spent his childhood in Etaples, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and he returned regularly to the family home there. He taught print-making at the Royal College of Art from 1955, becoming head of the department in 1970. He was a highly influential printmaker and his work is held by the Tate Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and extensively in the Government Art Collection. During the 1950s and 1960s his work was shown frequently at the Zwemmer Gallery in London. He was a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists. Later in life his work became increasingly abstract.
