Hugh Ralph Micklem (1918-2009) was a well-known painter of landscapes, portraits, still lifes and figure subjects. He was born in Hendon, north London, and studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts under Bernard Meninsky and William Roberts and later at the Westminster School of Art under Mark Gertler 1935-37. Hugh Micklem is known especially for his views of London and for his landscapes and coastal scenes in Spain. His work is represented in a number of public collections, including the Government Art Collection, National Army Museum, Bushey Museum & Art Gallery, and Buckinghamshire County Council.
