Cyril Wilson (1911-2002) was a painter and printmaker, mainly of landscapes, figure subjects and still lifes. Born in Buckinghamshire he studied for a short time at Reading School of Art. After war service he settled in Scotland, near Dumfries, and apart from regular long visits to Ibiza he lived in Dumfries and Galloway for the rest of his life. His work was exhibited widely in Scotland, including at the Royal Scottish Academy and with the Society of Scottish Artists, of which group he was a member. A major retrospective show was held in Scotland in 1991, featuring more than 100 of his works, and in 1995 a book by Melanie Landale was published on Wilson's life and work.
