Eric Doitch (1923-2000) (aka Erich Deutsch) was a well-known painter and printmaker of landscapes and figure subjects, and earlier of urban scenes. He was born in Vienna and settled in England in 1939. Doitch studied at St Martin’s School of Art and from 1946-49 at Camberwell School of Art and subsequently at the Royal College of Art 1951-54. He also studied printmaking at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. After marriage in 1954 he moved to Camberwell, south London. Doitch held a number of art teaching posts including Camberwell and Chelsea School of Art. He settled in Lincolnshire in 1971 and painted the fenland landscape, especially around Freiston Shore on The Wash. His work is represented in The British Museum, The Ben Uri Museum of Jewish Art in London, the Albertina Museum in Vienna, South London Art Gallery and in museums in Israel.
