John Wright, RE (1927-2001) was a well-known printmaker, painter and art teacher. He was born in Doncaster and studied art initially at Doncaster School of Art. After National Service he won a place at the School of Engraving at the Royal College of Art in London. Wright entered the teaching profession in Doncaster, later in Birmingham and finally in Leicester, where he was senior lecturer in the School of Fine Art for nearly thirty years. He lived nearby in the Market Harborough area and was a member of the Leicester Society of Artists. He was best known as a printmaker and exhibited regularly with the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) of which prestigious society he became a Fellow.
