George Dixon Aked (1907-1989) was a painter, draughtsman and photographer. He was born at Bingley in West Yorkshire and studied art in Skipton, at the Slade School and the Central London Polytechnic, and then in Paris at Academie Julian. Aked exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1929, with the New English Art Club also from 1929, and with the London Group. He then went travelling and after war service with ambulance units he settled in Barbados, living there for some years. He painted both landscapes and figure subjects at home and abroad and on his return to Britain he had several one man shows including a posthumous exhibition with Sally Hunter Fine Art in London.
