Frederick George Austin (1902-1990) was a well-known painter and printmaker, born in Leicester, brother of the artist Robert Sargent Austin RA. He studied at Leicester School of Art and at Royal College of Art under Osborne, Rothenstein and Schwabe, 1924–27. In 1927 he won the Prix de Rome for engraving. Austin exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1929-1960, at the Beaux Arts Gallery, and regularly with the Royal Society of Painter Etchers of which society he was a member. His work is held in several collections including the British Museum and the Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield. He lived in London.
