Ian Tyson (1933-2021) was a well-known printmaker, artist in other media, and an art teacher.  He was born in Wallasey, Cheshire, and studied art at Birkenhead School of Art and later at the Royal Academy Schools.  He then taught drawing and printmaking at Farnham School of Art (1959-66), then at St Martin's School of Art in London (1964-84) and at Wimbledon School of Art (1984). His first solo show was at Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Surrey in 1961 and he later founded The Tetrad Press (active 1970-1995). Tyson went on to exhibit in many solo and group shows across Europe.  In 1994 he had a one man show at Flowers East in 1994, where he exhibited paintings and relief constructions. His work is held in a number of public collections including The Tate Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, British Council, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, and the British Library who hold The Ian Tyson Collection. The artist lived in Vaucluse, France for some years.
