Artist: Ian Tyson
Title: 'A Illiers-Combray I'
Description: The artist spent some years living in France and the series of prints titled 'Illiers-Combray' refer to the village of this name which is situated in the Eure-et-Loir department in northern France. There were six individual screenprints in this series all dating to 1973 issued in very limited numbers. Examples are held by The Tate. We have three individual prints from this series, all Artist's Proofs, numbered 1, 111, and IV and each AP is signed in pencil by the artist, dated (19)73, and titled at lower left. These screenprints were printed by Chris and Rose Prater at their Kelpra Studio in London, known internationally. The prints all have the Kelpra Stamp verso. The Praters donated a large number of prints to Tate, including a large collection of work by Ian Tyson.
The present example is Artist Proof 1. It has never been framed and has been stored in a folio. The colours are good, without fading, and generally the print is in good order save for some handling marks over time.
