Title: ‘Pit Head'

Description: An original linocut, unframed but housed in its original mount, of a coal mining subject, presumably from Nottinghamshire or the North of England. The work is signed by the artist to the reverse 'P. Dawson' and priced by her then at £5. We do not know the date of the work but our feeling is that it is from the late 1950s or the 1960s. The image itself has great colours (red, black, grey) and save for some very minor creases it is in good condition, with strong colour. The linocut is also signed in pencil below the image, numbered and titled but these inscriptions have faded considerably over time although are just about legible. The signature is lower right, the title 'Pit Head' is lower centre, and the edition number is lower left. However, the edition number isn't that clear. We think it is 11 from an edition of 12. The work would benefit from a new mount and then framing to suit the requirements of the buyer. The work will be shipped large flat in a strong carton.
