Description: The present work is an original watercolour on thick artist’s board, signed lower left, and titled ‘South London’ and signed again on the reverse. We believe it dates to circa 1960 at which time it was priced by the artist at 40 guineas. It is in very good original condition and is housed in its original ‘RWS style’ wooden frame. The work had been in the collection of Sheffield City Art Galleries for a good many years and was de-accessioned no later than 2011, when it was auctioned publicly in Sheffield. There are various Sheffield City Art Galleries labels verso and it is probable that the watercolour was acquired by them when it was first exhibited by the artist in the 1960s. This is an opportunity to acquire a fine quality watercolour with the provenance of a major provincial public collection.
